Easter Light

Easter Light

the Light that dwelt
with darkness, death
rose again
rose and returned

walked, visible for a while
among those who
could not stay awake

to show
–one needed proof of touch—
Light is immortal
no sorrow, no stone
can keep it entombed
for long

to help understand
one who believes
Light’s briefly loaned her
like the moon’s

holds it, holds on to it
fragrant life-blood
flicker often
dimmed by doubt

but the woodpigeon
coos, just once
cue, sign of grace

to trust, embrace
ebb and flow
day and night
love, live, lightly
flicker or flame

know you belong
to the Light
beyond breath
